Chapter 6 Modeling Two Variable Data
Learning Targets for this chapter:
- Describe the form, direction, strength, and outliers of a scatter plot
- Interpret the slope and Interpret the y-intercept of a line of best fit
- Create upper and lower bounds and use them to create a range of predictions
- Make a prediction by evaluating the line of best fit
- Calculate and interpret residuals
- Create a Least Squares Regression Line
- Find and interpret the correlation coefficient
- Make a conjecture about lurking variables
Monday 2/10
Notes on Lines of Best Fit. Some students will re mediate today while others collect the data we require for 6.1.1.
Students work on 6-1 to 6-3 today in class.
Homework; #'s 4 - 9

More review on LBF, interpreting slope and y intercept. We explore a scatter plot that compares shoe size and age of children.
Activity completed in class where students create a scatter plot after collecting data on hand span and height.
No Homework.

6.1.2 More Scatterplots and we begin to look at residuals. Mostly today we completed the activity and review from Tuesday and Wednesday.
Homework: #'s 16-21 SKIP 19 (Note: Mrs. Meyer just pointed out that the equation in #16 for Fancyville doesn't work out. Must be a typo).

Thursday 2/20 - Friday 2/21
I will be out these two days for a conference. Your task for the next two days:
1. Finish the Ulna Bone vs. Height Activity from 6.1.3 (see handout)
2. Page 354 answer 6-23. You will turn this activity (Ulna Bone and 6-23 in as a "report")
3. Finish Homework for 6.1.2 (above) this worksheet was handed out in class on Tuesday.
4. Worksheet: Ice Cream Sales vs. Temp Activity due end of class on Friday. We will review on Monday toghether.
5. HOMEWORK: Page 355 #'s 24, 26, 27 (Due Monday)

Monday 2/24
Unfortunately I am not getting a lot of work turned in : ( Please take this opportunity YOUR LAST, to get me the following three things TOMORROW:
1. Ice Cream Activity
2. HW #'s 24, 26, 27
3. The 10 data points for the project!!! ONLY 5 PEOPLE TURNED IN TODAY.
Today we redid the Ulna Bone Assignment as a class and reviewed IN DETAIL how to find the equation of a line through 2 points.
Each student should have great notes on finding the equation of a line through two points AND the Ulna Bone activity completely filled out. We will finish the residuals on this tomorrow in class. Then work on 2. and 3. for the projects.

Tuesday 2/25
Today we reviewed the ulna bone activity and made sure we understood the concept of residuals and how to find them.
We then got onto laptops and made scatterplots with regression lines.
If you were unable to finish or even start the excel scatterplot with me you can do it on your own by watching the YouTube video below OR meet us FRIDAY IN MY ROOM and we will go over to a computer lab and do it together.
HOMEWORK: Bring a scatterplot ROUGH DRAFT of your project data to class tomorrow.
